A Spring Frutig Farms Wedding Filled with Full-Circle Moments

When their docks lined up on Whitmore Lake one Memorial Day weekend in 2020, neither of them knew they were beginning a lifelong story.

Both of their grandparents lived on the lake. She was there with friends; he was there with family. She spotted him across the dock and, in a rare burst of confidence, made the first move.

“I just thought he was really cute,” she laughs. “I don’t always have that big confidence moment, but that day I just went for it.”

Six years later, that spontaneous introduction has led to a beautiful Frutig Farms wedding planned for May 23 — Memorial Day weekend once again.

Full circle.

When You Know, You Know

They met at 17 and are now 23 and 24 — truly growing up together.

But what made their connection different from the start was something deeper than chemistry.

“He made me feel safe,” she shares. “He was sweet and kind and caring. We were both just so excited about each other.”

That steady feeling of safety became the foundation of their relationship — and the reason she says, without hesitation, “110%,” when asked if she knew he was the one.

Why They Chose Frutig Farms

When searching for a wedding venue, they knew two things mattered most:

• Staying local for family (South Lyon / Whitmore Lake area)
• Finding a space that reflected both of their personalities

He loves the outdoors.
She always dreamed of a barn wedding.

Their first visit to Frutig Farms was actually in the winter, snow blanketing the property. Even then, they knew.

“It just felt homey. Something about it felt right.”

The rustic charm, natural setting, and welcoming atmosphere made Frutig Farms the perfect backdrop for their spring wedding vision.

A Colorful Spring Wedding Vision

Their Frutig Farms wedding aesthetic is best described as colorful, rustic, and joyful.

“We want it to feel like love is wild and fun.”

Think:
• Spring wildflowers
• Soft pastels (sky blue, blush pink, pastel yellow)
• Thrifted gold frames in varying sizes
• A relaxed but elegant barn atmosphere

She’s thoughtfully thrifted much of their décor over their longer engagement, collecting meaningful pieces along the way.

And their date — May 23 — holds special meaning. They met Memorial Day weekend.

“Some people questioned the date,” she smiles. “But for us, it’s a full-circle moment.”

Planning a Frutig Farms Wedding: Lessons Learned

One of the biggest lessons she’s learned through planning is the importance of asking for help.

“I don’t like feeling like I’m burdening people. But this is our day. It’s okay to ask questions.”

Navigating opinions and building the guest list (currently around 170 guests) required intention — and boundaries.

“I’m a people pleaser. But you have to remember — it’s not anyone else’s wedding. It’s yours.”

One highlight of the planning process was attending Frutig Farms’ Expo, where couples can meet preferred vendors in one place.

“That was huge. Everyone was willing to tell you everything about what they offer. If couples are struggling to find vendors, that’s such a great place to start.”

She also emphasizes how supportive every vendor has been.

“Everyone has been incredibly nice and helpful. They know it’s my first time doing this. I ask questions all the time, and they’re always so kind about it.”

That support has made planning their Frutig Farms wedding feel smooth, collaborative, and exciting.

Looking Ahead to Their Wedding Day

With the wedding just months away, it’s starting to feel real.

“When January hit, I was like, ‘We’re getting married this year.’ Time is flying.”

More than any single detail, they’re most excited to stand together and officially begin their next chapter.

“Just saying our vows. Seeing both of our families together. Confirming that we’re all one family now. That makes me emotional.”

After six years together, this Frutig Farms wedding marks the start of a new adventure — rooted in safety, joy, and a love that began on a lake dock.
