A Love Story That Started with a Surprise

For Livie and Jackson, their love story is filled with humor, surprises, and an undeniable sense of ease. When Jackson proposed during a trip to New Orleans, Livie thought he was acting suspicious—not because he was planning a proposal, but because she was convinced he was going to break up with her!

“He had this backpack with him the whole trip and was being so sketchy about his phone. I thought, ‘Oh no, there’s another woman!’” Livie laughed. “Turns out, he was just hiding the ring.”

With a surprise proposal in the Louisiana heat behind them, their next step was figuring out what kind of wedding they wanted. Initially, they considered a simple courthouse ceremony, but as they started planning, they realized they wanted something more—a celebration where they could bring their loved ones together without the stress of an overly elaborate event.

Why They Chose Frutig Farms

Livie and Jackson weren’t set on a venue right away. In fact, they explored a few options before finding Frutig Farms, and it was Livie’s mom who led them to it after attending a wedding there.

“My mom went to a friend’s wedding at Frutig Farms and absolutely loved it. She told me we had to check it out.”

After their initial tour, it didn’t take long for them to decide. The combination of natural beauty, welcoming staff, and all-inclusive amenities made Frutig Farms stand out from other venues they had seen.

“Every question I had, Ed was like, ‘We can make that work. We can do this.’ It was such a relief.” Jackson added. “It felt like home to us.”

Another major factor? Flexibility and ease. Many other venues they toured had strict time constraints or required them to source tables, linens, and other rentals on their own. Frutig Farms, on the other hand, had everything they needed in one place.

“I didn’t want to be calling around for chairs and linens—it was already stressful enough! Frutig Farms took care of all that, which made planning so much easier.” Livie said.

The Role of the Frutig Farms Wedding Expo

Like many couples, Livie and Jackson felt overwhelmed at first when it came to picking vendors. That’s when the Frutig Farms Annual Wedding Expo became a game-changer.

“That Expo helped us so much. Instead of spending months running around to meet vendors, we were able to knock everything out in one day.” Jackson said.

From catering to florals to entertainment, they found almost everything they needed at the Expo.

“I trusted Frutig Farms to only work with great vendors, so I wasn’t nervous about choosing from their preferred list. It made the whole process feel stress-free.” Livie shared.

The only exception? Their photographer. They had a friend in mind for that role, but everything else—including catering, florals, and their live band—came straight from the Expo.

A Budget-Friendly Approach to Wedding Planning

Livie and Jackson quickly realized that wedding costs add up fast. Even though they had a solid budget in mind, there were expenses they hadn’t fully anticipated.

“It wasn’t that things were crazy expensive, but there were just so many little things—service fees, rentals, gratuities—that added up fast.” Livie explained.

Luckily, their families stepped in to help. Livie’s parents covered the venue, while Jackson’s parents took care of the rehearsal dinner and alcohol. That support allowed them to focus their budget on what mattered most to them—good food, drinks, and a relaxed atmosphere for their guests.

“We weren’t going to skimp on food or drinks. People are coming to celebrate with us, and we wanted to make sure they had an amazing time.” Jackson said.

Their caterer, Slow’s BBQ, fit their vision perfectly, offering comfort food that would keep their guests happy and full. Their band, Jedi Mind Trip, was a sentimental choice— Livie had been following them since she was 17, and they had even played at her brother’s wedding over a decade ago.

“They promised me at my brother’s wedding that when I got married, they’d play for me. And now, here we are!” Livie said.

A Wedding Weekend, Not Just a Wedding Day

One of the biggest perks of booking Frutig Farms was the ability to use the space for an entire weekend, not just one day. They’re planning a Friday rehearsal dinner and a laid-back bonfire night, keeping things simple and stress-free.

“Some weddings go crazy the night before, and the next day isn’t so fun. We just want a relaxed night with pizza, a bonfire, and our closest friends and family.” Jackson said.

Their ceremony will start later in the afternoon at 4 PM, allowing everyone to ease into the day without rushing.

“I love that we don’t have to cram everything into one day. We can enjoy every moment without feeling rushed.” Livie added.

And when it comes to decor? They’re keeping it cozy and personal. Their centerpieces will feature vinyl records and baby pictures of the couple—a nod to their shared love of music.

“I wanted it to feel warm, welcoming, and personal. Nothing over-the-top, just simple and meaningful.” Livie said.

Advice for Other Couples

Looking back on the planning process, Livie and Jackson had two key pieces of advice for other engaged couples:

Take advantage of the resources your venue offers.

“The Expo, the vendor list, the walkthroughs—Frutig Farms made it so easy. It would’ve been a nightmare to do all this on our own.”

Keep it simple and true to you.

“You don’t have to do things just because you see them at other weddings. If you don’t want a champagne toast or a sweetheart table, skip it! Make your wedding your own.”

As they prepare to say “I do” this fall, Livie and Jackson are excited to celebrate with their closest family and friends in a way that feels authentic, stress-free, and full of love.
